Master of Dermatology
The Master of Dermatology (MDerm) is a TEQSA accredited postgraduate course aligned to the current 4 year ACD Dermatology Training Program. It is also aligned with the AQF standards which is the national policy for regulated qualifications in Australian education and training making it nationally and internationally recognised. It provides successful candidates with a recognised higher education qualification in the field of dermatology.
Taught via a blended model of learning, the MDerm extends the depth of knowledge and understanding of key areas of the current specialist training program’s curriculum through course work and research to equip students to apply this in making better clinical decisions and making a positive contribution to advancing dermatological understanding.
On completion of this course students will be able to:
- Critically assess and synthesise specialist medical dermatological knowledge of disease process, presentation and epidemiology to develop effective differential diagnoses.
- Critically analyse appropriate investigations to develop and justify well-reasoned diagnoses.
- Evaluate results of investigations and then develop and assess effective management plans appropriate to the diagnosis and the patient’s context
- Critically apply specialist medical knowledge and diagnostic skills to develop best practice treatment options in procedural dermatology
- Synthesise anatomical understanding of the skin and underlying soft tissues with technical skills in the performance of dermatological procedures using aseptic technique
Plan, execute and report on substantial research projects in specialty dermatology fields
The course comprises 12 subjects with a mixture of core and elective subjects.

To be eligible to apply for entry into this course, applicants must have all of the following:
- Hold a bachelor degree in medicine (or equivalent)
- Be registered to practice medicine within Australia (and be living in Australia)
- Be a current Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists.
Please note that this course is not available for international students
Fellows who graduated in the last 10 years of the existing year (i.e. between the years of 2009 and 2018 for the year 2019) and have maintained their CPD requirements may be eligible for grandfathering for certain components of the course. Please see the Grandfathering FAQs. This outlines a table of subjects and estimated fees.
2 years (4 semesters) full time or 4 years (8 semesters) part time.
The total cost of the course is $18,000. This equates to $375 per credit point. See course structure for details of each subject and its credit point weighting
Grandfathering fees: For those eligible for grandfathering, the following course fees apply
- $1500. One off fee for Fellows who have completed their PhD or Masters by research and completed their training between 2009 and 2018. In order to complete the Masters, you must complete Electives A (1A and 2A) and B, or show that these have been completed via CPD or other courses.
- $3750. One of fee for Fellows without a completed PhD or Masters by research who completed their training between 2009 and 2018. In order to complete the Masters you must complete Electives A (1A and 2A) and B, Research methods II and III and the minor thesis, or show that these have been completed via CPD or other courses.
Other fees are paid for on an enrolment/RPL basis. There is no fee for RPL.
College is NOT a FEE-HELP provider and as such all course/subject fees must be paid up front at the time of enrolment, or in an approved payment plan.
The Course is run via a semester model.

- Registration in the program will be confirmed upon receipt of the completed enrolment form and payment of the relevant course/subject fees to ACD.
