Type: Trainee Grant
For: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Trainees
Who’s Eligible: College trainees identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
Preference is given to trainees in their final year of the training program, eligible to be awarded once only.
Where there are two or more eligible trainees, it is at the discretion of the ACD Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs Committee to determine the recipient.
Amount: up to $10,000, granted annually

About the Grant: Janssen provides Educational and Medical Grants to healthcare related organisations. Since 2019, Janssen has provided grant funds to the ACD for this educational grant to assist College in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander trainees achieve their educational goals of Fellowship.
Administered by the ACD Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs Committee, this grant recognises the importance of fostering the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander specialist dermatology workforce and improving skin health outcomes in Indigenous communities.
Criteria for Eligibility:
1. Be a trainee enrolled in the ACD trainee program, working towards their Fellowship
2. Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
Award Conditions: The grant can only be spent towards the trainee’s educational expenses and completion of training. This includes:
• Cost of examinations
• Cost for training fees
• Cost for conference (to cover registration, flights, accommodation and expenses)
• Other educational resources or equipment
The recipient must advise College on how the funds will be expended.
As this is an educational grant, there are no obligations for the recipient to acknowledge the funder in publications, presentations or other forums.
The ACD 56th Annual Scientific Meeting will be held on Whadjuk Noongar Boodja on 11-13 May 2024 at the Perth Conference and Exhibition Centre.
The College has established an award for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander medical students and junior doctors to attend the College’s Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM).
The Award aims to provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander medical students and junior doctors with an interest in dermatology with the following opportunities:
- Access to the educational program at the ASM
- Professional networking with College Fellows, registrars and other healthcare workers associated with the field of dermatology
- Introduction to the educational and collegial activities of the Australasian College of Dermatologists.
The Award: There are two categories of Award:
- Registration for the ASM. Travel and accommodation costs up to $1,000.
- Registration for the ASM only.
Applications open: Applications will open in late January 2024.
Application deadline: To be advised. Please note late applications will not be accepted.
Criteria for Eligibility: Applicants must be medical students or junior doctors who identify as being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
Previous recipients are eligible and invited to apply however preference may be given to applicants who have not received the Award previously.
Award Conditions: On conclusion of the ASM, Award recipients are required to write a letter to the College’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs Committee with a post-conference report of approximately 500 words, which may be published by the College either in print or on its website.

- Completed application form
- A letter from the applicant to the College’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs Committee of no more than 500 words, outlining:
- Your interest in dermatology
- How you believe attendance at the ACD ASM will be of professional benefit to you
- Your interest, involvement and aspirations in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health
- A Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- One letter of reference (from a supervisor)
- The name and phone number of one other referee
- Confirmation of Aboriginality from an incorporated Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander organisation, presented on official letterhead and signed by an authorised and contactable person.
The College’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs Committee will assess applications and decide the Award recipients and category of Award. Applicants will be advised of the outcome in mid-late March 2024.

Type: Trainee Grant
For: Trainees to travel to the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology
Who’s Eligible: College Trainees completing the Fellowship exam
Amount: Up to $10,000
Awarded: Post Fellowship exam to the most meritorious candidate in the Fellowship exam.
About the Grant: First offered in 1977, this prize is awarded to the most meritorious candidate in the Fellowship Examination. Galderma Australia Pty Ltd makes available $10,000.00 for the prize winner to attend the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) meeting (or other approved meeting) the next year. The prize, as determined by the NEXC, is awarded to the candidate with the highest Overall Fellowship Examination Score.
The Award: The cost of airfare and accommodation for the travel to the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology will be covered. The recipient is expected to visit several dermatology departments as well as attending the Academy Meeting.
Recipients of this Fellowship are asked to apply for reimbursement of their expenses. Recipients will be required to furnish receipts and other documentation to substantiate their expenses.
Award conditions: The recipient must prepare a report, within three months upon return, for the Board meeting prior to the ASM. The report may be required to be presented at the ASM, and will be published in the Australasian Journal of Dermatology.

About the Award: The Australasian College of Dermatologists (ACD) is administering a research grant on behalf of Eczema Association of Australasia Inc to support and promote the undertaking of research by Fellows and Trainees of the ACD in Atopic Dermatitis/Eczema.

Eligibility Criteria:
- Fellows and Trainees of the Australasian College of Dermatologists
- Research must be undertaken in Australia for the benefit of Australians.
- Funds will be administered to a single institution although the project itself can be collaborative and multi-institutional.
- Projects must investigate clinical, scientific, health services or related research outcomes focusing on Atopic Dermatitis/Eczema.
- Projects can be based on new or existing research.
Grant Conditions: Duration of up to 2 years. A report should be submitted on conclusion of the project. Appropriate acknowledgement of the grant should be made in any such publications.

Dr F.C. Florance was one of Sydney’s early dermatologists and a founder of the College, who believed that dermatologists should benefit from overseas dermatological training and exposure to expand their practice. He helped ex-servicemen establish their dermatological practices upon returning from WW2.
The Florance Family bequeathed to College a donation which enabled the establishment of the Florance Bequest, which since 1987 has facilitated approx. 75 Fellows to undertake an approved course of study overseas. The Family has kindly supported College in the redirection of these funds to align with College’s Investment Strategy to support larger scale strategic research and innovation in the future.
To continue to honour Dr Florance’s name and vision, College has established a new award for Fellows to be presented annually at the Conferring Ceremony. Award nominations will be facilitated through Faculty Executives.

About the Award: The Scientific Research Fund Grant has been established to support research projects in dermatology. The goals of the Grant are to:
- Promote, develop, foster, and support research projects in clinical, scientific, health services or related research outcomes in dermatology.
- Provide funds to other institutions or organisations provided such funds are applied exclusively for the purposes of promoting, developing, fostering, and supporting research into Dermatology or allied or associated sciences.
- Encourage and assist research into sciences allied or associated with Dermatology.

For: The Fellowship may be used by trainees for 12 months accredited training for the FACD, to gain dermatological experience and relevant expertise at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford, UK.
Who’s Eligible: The Fellowship shall be awarded annually to a trainee of the Australasian College of Dermatologists.
Amount: Up to $40,000
Australasian College of Dermatologists and the Churchill Hospital have donated $40,000 and £18,000 respectively to enable trainees of the Australasian College of Dermatologists to obtain clinical dermatological experience at the Churchill Hospital. The amount available for the Fellowship may vary from year to year.
The grant is available for a training position for provisional accreditation as part of the four year training program of the Australasian College of Dermatologists. In addition, to gain accreditation the applicant must submit progress reports of his/her duties by 1 May and 1 September and a detailed report must be submitted at the end of the approved year of training. These reports must be certified by the head of the training program.
Closing Date: Applications should be received no later than 1 March. Under no circumstances will applications be considered if they reach College after this date.

For: The Fellowship may be used by trainees for 12 months accredited training for the FACD, to gain dermatological experience and relevant expertise at the St John’s Hospital for Diseases of the Skin, London, UK.
Who’s Eligible: The Fellowship shall be awarded annually to a trainee of the Australasian College of Dermatologists.
Amount: Up to $40,000
The Australasian College of Dermatologists donates $40,000 to enable trainees of the Australasian College of Dermatologists to obtain clinical dermatological experience at St John’s Hospital for Diseases of the Skin. This will be supplemented by a grant from St John’s. Currently the Fellowship is with Dr Sean Whittaker. The amount available for this fellowship may vary from year to year.
The grant is available for a training position for provisional accreditation as part of the four year training program of the Australasian College of Dermatologists. For: Trainee to attend the Annual Conference of the New Zealand Dermatological Society
Who’s Eligible: ACD Trainees for each alternate year (2016, 2018, 2020 etc)
Amount: Up to $2,000
Application Open: 5 February 2024
Application Close: 30 May 2024
About the Grant: The Trans-Tasman Exchange Scholarship was established by the Australasian College of Dermatologists and the New Zealand Dermatological Society in 2001 to enable attendance at each association’s Annual Scientific Meeting. The scholarship is awarded alternately by the two associations.
Criteria for Eligibility: Provide an abstract that meets the NZDSi guidelines (refer to Abstract Guidelines below).
The Award: The cost of one return economy airfare between the recipient’s home city and the conference city, and accommodation during the meeting. The total value of the scholarship does not exceed AU$2,000. The registration fee of the Annual Scientific Meeting will be waived.
Award Conditions: The recipient is required to present their accepted paper at the 2025 New Zealand Dermatological Society’s Annual Scientific Meeting and to provide the College with a report of the conference on return.
How to Apply: Applications should include a letter to the Meeting & Events Oversight Group setting out reasons as to why they should be selected and a copy of their abstract. Submit your application via the ‘Submit Application’ button below when applications open 5 February 2024.
