In your day-to-day practice, you may already be engaging in activities that can count towards your CPD. These activities are designed to enhance your skills and knowledge as a dermatologist. Some examples are:

• Attending conferences, workshops, seminars, and webinars
• Participating in clinical audits, case discussions, and quality improvement activities within your practice
• Engaging in research activities, such as conducting studies, analysing data, and publishing research papers
• Teaching or mentoring other dermatologists, medical students or healthcare professionals
• Developing and reviewing educational content for organisations such as professional societies, or educational institutions
• Participating in practice meetings, audits, and practice accreditation activities
• Taking part in team care planning and case-based discussions
• Developing clinical resources and guidelines to support evidence-based practice in dermatology

• Educational Activities

Educational activities include those that expand upon your general dermatology and medical knowledge and skills. Activities such as lectures, conferences, workshops, podcasts and courses.

• Reviewing Performance

Reviewing performance involves an activity that requires reflection on your work, and the feedback associated with it. Feedback might be from patients, peers or colleagues.

• Measuring Outcomes

Measuring outcomes includes activities that use your own work data to ensure value. You can achieve this by conducting audits, undertaking research, or evaluations.   

The Professional Development Plan is a mandatory requirement from the 1^st January, 2023. This is a natural evolution from the current CPD Learning Plan, and is intended to be undertaken at the start of the CPD program, and reviewed at the end. The PDP is a planning tool to guide Fellows through CPD for the year, and can be used to identify development needs both personally and professionally.

Under the new MBA standard, it is now mandatory for all registered doctors to complete and annual PDP. Your PDP is a private and confidential document, ACD does not review it or share with others. You have the flexibility to create your own PDP template or use ACD’s online PDP template. ACD’s auditing process focusses on verifying the completion status of your PDP, rather than reviewing its content. 

If you are a member of an AMC-accredited specialist College for each of your specialist registrations,  it may be possible for you to complete your CPD within one AMC-accredited College or CPD home. Some Colleges have opted to mandate specialist high-level requirements – you will be required to complete these for each College if this is the case. At this time, ACD has opted not to mandate and specialist high-level requirements.

There will be overlap, and College will recognise other CPD activities from other CPD homes. We don’t expect you to have to do the same thing twice, please email  the CPD Team at cpd@dermcoll.edu.au if you need more information or to discuss your own requirements.

Fellows must retain documented evidence of their participation in CPD activities, as per previous years.

As a member of ACD, you’ll be automatically enrolled in to the ACD CPD program.

All member data is managed in accordance with ACD’s privacy policy.

Providers who wish to have their CPD activity recognised by the Australasian College of Dermatologists for its members to claim CPD points, please contact the CPD team via email cpd@dermcoll.edu.au

All doctors registered with AHPRA are required to meet their 50 hour requirements relevant to their registration type. This includes part time dermatologists. 

A CPD home refers to an organisation that has been accredited by the AMC, the accreditation authority for the MBA, to provide a CPD program for medical practitioners. As a designated CPD home, ACD is required to meet certain obligations, which include:

• Providing the necessary infrastructure to support medical practitioners’ CPD programs
• Publishing comprehensive information about the requirements, content/activities, and associated fees related to its CPD programs
• Ensuring that the CPD activities offered are relevant and offer developmental value for medical practitioners.
• Offering guidance and support to practitioners regarding CPD requirements and appropriate CPD activities
• Reporting to the MBA on compliance with CPD requirements 
• Being accredited with both the AMC and meeting the accreditation requirements while reporting on compliance

To meet the minimum CPD standard established by the MBA, medical practitioners are required to participate in a CPD program organised by an approved CPD home that has been accredited by the AMC. This ensures that practitioners are engaged in high quality CPD activities that adhere to the MBA’s guidelines.
